Brugse Zoom

Brugse Zoom in Nieuwerbrug is a new-build project that enhances the area's village character with a contemporary interpretation of Dutch architecture. This new, sustainable extension on the edge of Nieuwerbrug aan den Rijn comprises a combination of 30 homes for starters and families. 

Architect Henk Middelkoop says: ‘It's a cosy village that has grown organically and only in recent decades received extensions in a uniform style. We chose to reflect the diverse character of Nieuwerbrug in the new edge of the village by applying varied roof shapes and multiple roof and façade colours. The architecture fits in nicely with the local atmosphere and gives Nieuwerbrug a new village outskirts: De Brugse Zoom.’ 

The detached houses come in two colour variants and are characterised by robust volumes and varying roof shapes. The entrance on the side elevation and large windows give the houses a light and open appearance. The facades are finished in a varied palette of brick and other natural materials, contributing to a rich and varied streetscape. 

The semi-detached houses have a diverse façade design, with varying roof shapes that create a lively appearance. The spacious, garden-facing living rooms and open kitchens promote contact with the outside. 

Striking features of the semi-detached houses are the dormer windows that extend over the façades and the chimney shapes in the end walls. Two colours of brickwork contribute to the aesthetic variation within the project. The bright second floor is perfect for extra living space. 

All homes are gas-free and equipped with sustainable technologies such as ground-source heat pumps and high-quality insulation. This makes them ready for a future that focuses on energy-efficient and environmentally friendly living, matching the historic and charming surroundings of Nieuwerbrug. 

The Brugse Zoom is part of the new residential area Wijde Wiericke, in the south of Nieuwerbrug. It will be a neighbourhood in green and water-rich surroundings with a varied range of homes and an Integral Children's Centre, including De Brug primary school, a gymnasium and other social functions.
