Island Living
Eilandwonen ( Eiland II) is a new part of Westergouwe Phase III in Gouda. Subarea A will house 24 beautiful quay homes, with back gardens bordering the water. Subarea B offers 10 stylish semi-detached houses, ideal for families looking for comfort and space. Each subarea in Westergouwe III has its own living environment and a unique architectural style, tailored to the urban layout and inspired by Eiland I.
Architecture with character
The houses on Eiland II exude authenticity and character. The quay houses are designed with a robust brick plinth about 4 metres high, directly bordering the water. This characteristic element refers to Gouda's historic city centre, where canals and facades blend harmoniously. The structure of the buildings plays subtly with height differences and façade layouts, giving each house its own identity within a coherent whole.
The architecture of Eiland II combines traditional influences with contemporary designs. The solid brick base is reminiscent of Gouda's historic quay walls, while the upper facades offer a modern interpretation of classic buildings. Details such as window layouts, materials and use of colour have been carefully chosen to create a rich and inviting appearance.
Inspiration from Gouda
Gouda, with its rich history as a fortified city, served as a model for the development of the houses on Eiland II. The plinth and frame layout of the historic buildings in the city centre were analysed and incorporated into the design in a contemporary way. This results in homes with character that are simultaneously modern and timeless.
The architecture on Eiland II contributes to a harmonious streetscape. The properties are designed pawn-by-pawn, which means that each house is recognisable as an individual object, but is also part of a larger whole. This enhances the sense of belonging and authenticity in the neighbourhood.
