Westerhof
Westerhof is a striking part of Westergouwe Phase III in Gouda. This project symbolises the connection between Westergouwe and Gouda's historic city centre. Here, city and district come together in an architectural ensemble that not only refers to Gouda's rich heritage, but also offers a modern interpretation of an intimate and lively residential environment.
Compact and atmospheric
The plan for Westerhof comprises 30 ground-level terraced houses and 54 flats. The various building blocks follow the area's natural water structure and embrace the central diagonal watercourse, creating a harmonious and playful layout. The terraced houses and flats have been designed with an eye for detail and fit seamlessly into the visual language of Gouda's city centre.
Historicising stylistic features, such as brick facades, refined window arrangements and subtle ornaments, give the houses a unique look. The solid plinth of the buildings, the variation in façade heights and the use of characteristic details give the houses a timeless allure. Each building block tells its own story, combining modern living comforts with traditional influences. The flats along the canal have four storeys, with a striking six-storey accent on the corner near the diagonal watercourse. These visual highlights create an urban character that contrasts with the informal atmosphere of the row houses around the central courtyard.
From urban to informal
The design of Westerhof responds to the contrast between urbanity and cosiness. Along the canal, the flats offer a more anonymous, urban feel, while the courtyard has an intimate and informal atmosphere. Here you will find car-free streets with Delft pavements that invite to meet and socialise. The transition from flats to row houses has been carefully designed, with a gradation in height and density: from four to six layers along the canal to two and three layers around the courtyard.
Attention to living space
In Westerhof, the quality of the public space is central. Cars are parked within the building blocks or at the edges of the area, leaving the inner streets free and lending themselves optimally to greenery and places to stay. The central watercourse and informal walking routes contribute to a pleasant living environment that connects residents with each other and with nature.
Westerhof offers a diversity of homes suitable for a variety of living preferences. Whether you choose a flat with an urban feel or a terraced house in the cosy courtyard, each home combines character with modern living comforts.
